Shin's Family Martial Arts Center offers an exclusive one of a kind program called "Kick & Flip" combining martial arts, gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling for one amazing workout!
Shin's Kick & Flip Program
Shin’s Family Martial Arts offers a fun filled class called Kick & Flip. This class acts as a prelude to our XMA program (Xtreme Martial Arts). Kick & Flip is the Shin’s way of combining Tae Kwon Do kicking, acrobatic/tumbling skills, and trampoline.
Rather than take a separate trampoline/tumbling class and Tae Kwon Do class, you can take just one class and learn both. The benefits of Kick & Flip is that it caters to beginners in both Tae Kwon Do and trampoline/tumbling. However, we do have some students who are at higher levels and we modify workouts for them on an as needed basis. An overview of our Kick & Flip program is warming up, then drilling various kicks from basic front snaps to more difficult skills such as split kicks and tornado kicks. We then move onto tumbling and trampoline, where basics are focused with the beginners while still letting them have “free jump” time. Curriculum is consistent, but variety is too so that the kids receive challenges as well as not get bored with the same thing over and over. We encourage repetition/practice as a key to success, but we also understand that you can’t have students feeling that class is getting monotonous. As the students advance, we work creating combinations of kicks and tumbling skills as well as learning more advance skills, while still focusing on technique and having fun. We also encourage the students to have patience. That some skills will not happen in one class, that patience and consistency will get them what they are working on. For some kids who have difficulty with a more complex skill such as a cartwheel or jump spinning crescent, we break down the skill so that they can practice a component of the skill in order to improve. Kick & Flip also helps with creativity. As we teach combinations, students have to be able to create their own. When we test students for black belt, part of their test requires their ability to “freestyle” (make up combinations on the spot). By practicing combinations we teach as well as the making up their own, the students become better prepared for this. We also encourage creativity by having the students (especially the younger ones) incorporate anything they have seen, such as watching Avatar on tv. The kids have the freedom to be creative and original or practice what we have taught them. The great thing is when we see kids take what we teach and build upon it, which is very fulfilling for Shin’s instructors. Our Kick & Flip program leads into our XMA program which is a part of our Master’s Club program. XMA is at a higher level both physically and mentally.
