Building better futures“Dear Master Shin, I want to thank you and all the instructors I’ve had at Shin’s for your time, patience, and support for the past nine years. You gave me encouragement when things got tough. You taught me staying power when I wanted to quit and you taught me to never give up. You have given me pride in what I have accomplished that can only be earned thru years of hard work and commitment. I could not have accomplished my goal of earning a black belt if you were not there for me each time. I started at Shin’s when I was four years old. I was awkward and I struggled with many of the basic skills. There were lots of times I wanted to quit but my parents wouldn't let me. I had a hard time when I couldn't do a round house kick or a flying side kick perfectly. It was then that I wanted to give up. You always told me, “Never give up!” You also told us to “love the pain.” Well, with your help and my parents help, I didn’t give up, but I don’t know if I love the pain, even to this day. You were always there to encourage me and let me know when I mastered a skill. I remember one time at the old building; I did a flying side kick perfectly and you made a really big deal about it, telling the whole class to look at me do it again. That made me so proud and happy. It was times like those that made me want to keep doing Taekwondo. Now I have my Black Belt; I can still hardly believe it. It is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life and one that I will always treasure. I know that in the future when difficulties come my way in whatever I’m doing, I can overcome them if I stay on my goals and never give up. Thanks for everything!”
Shin’s Family Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Fitness Center – The Best Place In Santa Clarita for All Your Martial Arts Needs…and More!!!“Nearly nine years ago our daughter Jamie asked if she could “try karate.” This simple request began a great family adventure that none of us could have ever imagined. We enrolled Jamie at Shin’s Family Martial Arts at the age of eight not knowing how long ‘her trial’ would actually last. With the support of Master Shin (and his amazing staff) our journey has taken a number of twists. Jamie quickly realized she “loved Tae Kwon Do” and attending Shin’s. While having fun Jamie became physically fit and matured. We appreciated that our basic family tenants of integrity, honesty and the benefits of hard work were naturally reinforced as a part of the Shin’s curriculum. As a family we’ve met so many wonderful families and kids at Shin’s. Our own “kid” is now a young woman and a second degree black belt. She enjoys assisting younger children at Shin’s and now helps Master Shin with coaching Team Fury (Shin’s Family Martial Arts Center’s National Sparring Team)… what a journey! Master Shin, his Instructors and office staff are professional, courteous and caring. They truly love what they are doing and it shows! We’d invite anyone to contact us about the benefits of joining the Shin’s Family. It’s truly a fun, family environment! Greg, Kathy & Jamie Reynar”
My Path To Mixed Martial Arts“Master Shin has helped me in ways that prepared me for my future. Before I trained with Master Shin, I got picked on at school and couldn’t even do a push up. Now I have six fill contact fights and teach MMA (mixed martial arts) to children and adults. He has given me tools that will help me through out my life time. Thank you Master Shin! Dustin Arklin”
Discipline, Courage, Determination… and Just Plain Hard Work.“Discipline, courage, determination, and just plain hard work. These are words that come to mind when I think about my experiences at Shin’s Black Belt Academy. Since my first day of class to the present, each time I enter the studio I know I am in for one tough workout that will challenge me and teach me the aforementioned words. The classes are well organized, taught with passion by Master Shin, and constantly changing to best suit his students. The environment of the classes are a direct result of Master Shin’s personality and ability to make his students feel like they are accomplishing something special, which they are. Master Shin’s pleasant demeanor and obvious enjoyment for his job, along with his excellent teaching techniques and verbal praises have made me more aware of how I can better myself as a teacher and basketball coach. Having also seen Master Shin work with children and teenagers I am convinced that he is truly a gifted teacher and a very good person.”
Best after school program in Santa Clarita“My son Jacob has been going to the Shin’s after school program for a couple of years now. We LOVE Shins. They pick him up from school, he gets the majority of his homework done while he is there and gets to take class. My son was in other day care situations where they basically sat in a room or visited a playground. At Shins there is no sitting around, no being bored watching the clock for mom. The instructors are amazing. They truly care about our children. My son is completely comfortable at Shins… it is like his home away from home. He has progressed from Tae Kwon Do to the Master’s Club and the Pre-Team which has been absolutely amazing for his self esteem. It truly does take a village to raise a child and I am glad that Shins is part of my village. PS As a side note, I have even started taking class at Shins!”
Tae Kwon Do Fun With Master Shin“Master Shin prepared our three sons in the areas of self discipline, respect for others and confidence to know they could deflect a problem situation. The best part of it all is Master Shin provided structure under the pretense of fun and excitement, from breaking wood and bricks, to roundhouse kicks, endless hours of techniques…all the while with smiles and loads of energy. The lessons our sons learned early on have now carried them thru their young adult lives. We adore Master Shin! Sincerely, Steve & Diane Arklin”
Mom's happy heart“My daughter who is 13 and has Autism (high functioning) has been going to the after school care and participating in 4 classes per week. I had the pleasure of watching her earn her yellow belt and was so impressed with the staff and their high energy to keep the kids focused and excited. My daughter loves to come to Shins and would go every day of the week if she could. I am thankful that when school is out, they still offer camp so that she isn't disappointed that she can't go. I can't say enough about this facility and the fact that my daughter is included in everything and is treated the same as everyone else makes this mother's heart very happy!!!”
Mrs. Michele Krantz Principal of Rancho Pico Junior High“There are no benches in martial arts. There is no right field in martial arts. Although not by design, the bench and the position of right field undermine the very thing that a sport should do for a child: raise self esteem. As a teacher I see first hand the role good self esteem plays in a student’s academic success. Self esteem can do more to determine how much a student can achieve then will raw intelligence, a good teacher or the latest in classroom technology. A quality martial arts training will raise a student’s self esteem. It is goal oriented (the coveted black belt), with small successes built in along the way (the other colored belts). No one sits on the bench. Students are involved the entire time. They learn team work as they hold bags for others to practice. They learn how to work with others as they spar. They learn how to win and how to lose, all the while keeping their self respect in tact. Not just any martial arts program can provide the above. It takes a special, talented and trained instructor to accomplish this. Master Shin is that instructor. He is the rare sort of teacher that can respond to young children, teenagers and adults equally. I have had Master Shin’s students sit in my own classroom. These students showed respect for their teachers, fellow classmates and themselves. They are driven to succeed, focused and possess self control. As a junior high teacher, I know these are rare qualities indeed for this age group. Master Shin provides quality instruction, a safe environment and serves as a positive role model. As a green belt in his adult class, I have seen first hand the kind of teacher Master Shin is. He is not only a role model for children, he is a role model for the teachers of your children, such as me.”
Santa Clarita’s Best Taekwondo Martial Arts School“Dear Master Shin – We wanted to take a moment to thank you and your wonderful staff for this past year at Shin’s Family Taekwondo Martial Arts Fitness Center. Your exceptional instructors have kept our 4 year-old son’s interest in gymnastics, trampoline, tumbling and martial arts from wavering with their creative and kind demeanor. Our 9 year-old daughter was nervous about starting gymnastics due to a bad experience at a previous gym but your kind and wonderful staff immediately put her mind at ease and has since loved coming to Shin’s. As parents, we can’t tell you how much we appreciate knowing that our children will be taught, respected, and cared for by your professional staff as if they were working with their own child. Thank you – The Battistini Family”
About 10 years ago, I walked through the doors of Shin’s with my 4 year old son.“I had no idea 10 years later we’d still be walking through those doors (although in a better location now). Shin’s has almost become our second home. There are so many reasons why we have stayed with Shin’s. Of course Tae Kwon Do is a beautiful and powerful discipline, but there are many reasons why we picked Shin’s in particular. First of all, it’s the staff. Master Shin teaches the students to be their best and he expects nothing less of his staff. The staff has been consistently firm yet caring in their approach. Not just anyone can teach Tae Kwon Do, but Shin’s staff can. When I watch a class I feel they really work hard to make sure the students have improved their skills before they leave. They are not afraid to stop the class and work on minor details. Secondly, it’s the flexibility. When we signed up, we were able to pick the program that worked best for our family. With 3 very active children, our schedule can get very busy. With Shin’s flexibility, we can still attend Shin’s while my children participate in other sports as well. I should also add that Tae Kwon Do can help condition your children to do even better with any other sports they may be doing. In fact, each of my children has gotten something different out of Shin’s. My oldest has actually used what was taught in Safeguard, to fend off a bully. My second child attends because he simply likes the idea of reaching black belt. My youngest likes that Shin’s helps her to perform better in her other sports. There are so many different reasons to take Martial Arts. Thirdly, Master Shin and his staff care. It amazes me that they know everyone’s name and what is going on in there lives. They aren’t just interested in teaching Tae Kwon Do, but they are also interested in their students. We absolutely love Shin’s. We wouldn’t still be attending 10 years later if we didn’t. We are lucky to have a school like this in Santa Clarita. The Nobles”
Shin's Family Martial Arts is the best!“I am so thankful to have found Shin's Family Martial Arts! I have been taking classes since 2007 and I have loved every second of it. All the instructors are great with kids and make the classes a lot of fun. I even had fun taking the tougher classes when I was training for my first degree black belt. The instructors are very motivating and enthusiastic every day too! I have learned so much at Shin's and I love sharing it all with my family. Every day when I come home I always tell my family about all of the new skills and tricks that I learned. Plus, Shin's is a great way to work out while having a great time.”
Santa Clarita Families Love It at Shin’s Family Taekwondo Martial Arts Fitness Center“Dear Master Shin, We would like to thank you and all of your fabulous instructors at Shin’s Family Martial Artsfor all the great training and exercise our family has received at your facility. We have been attending classes at Shin’s for many years, and we have found that t he benefits our boys have received are far beyond the physical work out. It has boosted their self confidence and self control. They interact well with their peers and are learning to diffuse certain situations. It is such a great form of exercise and training. Not only are they learning to be healthy and stay active, they are learning respect and discipline and the best part is that they are having fun and don’t even know it! So again thanks to you and all the instructors at Shin’s, you all go out of your way to make working out enjoyable and fun! The Lomeli Family”
Friendly family atmosphere for thirty years“Dear Master Shin, When Cole wanted to be a ninja at age 3, my husband only wanted to take him to Shin’s because of the positive experience he had there some 20 years ago. When Cole just sat there in class the first day, you told us that he’s just observing and will come around. You were absolutely right! Cole entered Shin’s this shy little kid who introduced himself as Batman. Now 4+ years later he is a slightly bigger kid with confidence, martial arts skills and respect for all those around him. You and your staff have been an incredible part of both of my kids’ lives, and I hope it continues for a very long time. May you continue to impress a positive experience in both kids and adults for many more years to come. Thank you! Willy, Charissa, Cole and Julia Harber”
Why You Should Take Tae Kwon Do“INTRO Think: Many people are victims of bullies who beat them up. Do you want to be one of them? To prevent you from getting bullied, there is a thing called Tae Kwon Do. Discover this martial art, as we journey through kicks and punches to learn three good reasons for studying Tae Kwon Do: Self-Defense, Stature, and Discipline. REASON 1: Self-Defense To begin with, you should learn Tae Kwon Do because if somebody attacks you, you can defend yourself. Many kids are bullied each year, and some are even kidnapped, but you can prevent yourself from being one of them by learning this martial art. For example, most people who can hurt you, can easily be stopped by a kick between the legs. Besides, if your muscles are strong enough and you’re in top shape, you could defend yourself and even if the person manages to punch you, you might not get hurt so bad. Tae Kwon Do can defend and protect you REASON 2: Stature Secondly, you should learn Tae Kwon Do because when you get fit, you’ll look quite impressive delivering punches and kicks. Have you seen those marital art movies? When you become a black-belt, you could perform moves like those. Who knows? Once you get really good at Tae Kwon Do, you could get signed up to be in a movie, and, maybe you might be a star! In any case, Tae Kwon Do can make you look impressive Why You Should Take Tae Kwon Do REASON 3: Discipline Finally, you must take Tae Kwon Do to learn discipline. Yes, I said discipline. Tae Kwon Do isn’t just about the moves. It doesn’t matter how strong your kicks are, or how fast your punches are, if you are undisciplined, you won’t get your next belt. To have discipline, do your best, be respectful, say “Yes sir” to anything your Master says in class, bow to the flags when you come in/out of the Dojang, and remain quiet at all times, except when you are kicking. When you kick, yell “kiap!” Just doing those simple things will make you better liked by the instructors and admired by others. Discipline means that you train the body and mind to react automatically, and not to use force unless necessary. Tae Kwon Do is discipline COUNTER-ARGUMENT Many people say that if someone fights you, you should tell an adult. But what if the bullying doesn’t stop after you tell? What if someone starts punching and beating you? Are you just going to let he/she finish you off, and then later tell on them? Or, are you going to show your opponent what you think of the bullying? Tae Kwon Do is about self-defense CLOSING So, as you have learned, Tae Kwon Do isn’t just kicks. It’s discipline, respect, stature and self-defense. I believe that Tae Kwon Do promotes health, learning, protection and fun. Remember, Tae Kwon Do is: Defense and Offense, Stature, Discipline and Respect. So, why don’t you sign up for some Tae Kwon Do lessons today? KIAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Tae Kwon Do, Gymnastics, XMA & Krav Maga at Shin’s – Santa Clarita’s Premier Martial Arts Training Facility“Our son came to us and said he would really like to attend a martial arts studio. We began to search around for a school and it took us TWO years to find what we were looking for because we wanted a good balance of martial arts which teaches honor, respect and commitment mixed with fun. Well, that is EXACTLY what our family discovered at Shin’s. The wide variety of classes from tae kwon do, gymnastics, XMA and Krav Maga made it perfect for our entire family. After a year, the family still has a love for their classes and has transformed our family into a strong, close, fun family which encourages each other as we climb and sweat through belt ranks. Forever Thanks, The Kay Family”
My son begged me to take Tae Kwon Do classes for two years…“until I finally relented, and I’m really glad that I did. From the very first day, he loved it, both the Tae Kwon Do training and the gymnastics. I was pleased that Shin’s offers trampoline and tumbling which allowed him to continue his gymnastics training while introducing Tae Kwon Do. I also loved both the flexibility of Shin’s schedule, which offers a multitude of class times, and the variety of classes offered. My son hasn’t gotten bored; twice last year, new classes were introduced that took him into new directions. The instruction at Shin’s is top notch. I’ve been very impressed with their teaching techniques; the instructors break down each kick or strike into its basic components so that it’s easy to understand. Students are given guidance on improving their technique and are challenged to take their skills to the next level. The instructors provide an atmosphere of positive encouragement while at the same time teaching discipline. They emphasize showing respect to each other, instructors, and parents. They include safety talks and instruction on how to handle bullies. The classes are well organized with warm-ups and conditioning at the beginning of each class, followed by a variety of drills. But, each class is unique so you don’t get bored in the same-old routine. Over the last 10 months, my daughter, husband and I have all joined up as well, so now it’s a family affair. We attend classes together a couple times a week, and go our own way on other days to classes that match our specific interests. Over dinner, we tell each other about new techniques we learned. Together, we are working towards our goals, and Shin’s has provided us with a new focus. Each of us is at a different level in training (different belt levels) and we keep each other motivated to progress to the next level. I like that I have the opportunity to participate in the kid’s activities, and also that we aren’t the only ones doing so. There are quite a number of families that participate, and we all encourage each other. Since we started taking classes at Shin’s, my husband and I have both lost weight and have more energy. I find that I’m much better at coming regularly to these classes than I ever was at going to the gym, partly because I’m going there anyway to take the kids to their classes. But also, the friendly atmosphere and support from classmates and the instructors keeps us motivated to stick with it. I feel fortunate to have found Shin’s, as it has provided our family a common experience that has brought us together and provided healthy and positive benefits to all of us. Nilsen Family”
Santa Clarita’s Ultimate Training Center for Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts“Where can you go in Santa Clarita for National level training in Tae Kwon Do sparring? Shin’sFamily Martial Arts! Our four daughters were small, shy, sweet girls who needed to grow in confidence and physical ability (and a little self defense could come in handy down the road). So we enrolled them at Shin’s as early as 3 years of age. The instructors are fantastic and know how to challenge kids both physically and mentally. One of the great growing opportunities occurs in competition with winning and losing at tournaments. And fortunately at Shin’s, there is a lot more winning. Our oldest daughter after 4 years at Shin’s placed 1st at the Jr. Olympics. Our girls are still small, shy, and sweet; but now they are also agile, strong, capable of performing under pressure, and they can fight! Takeshi Nakazawa”
Santa Clarita Kids and Moms Love It at Shin’s – The Most Recommended Martial Arts School In Santa Clarita“I am a proud parent of three wonderful boys who have had the privilege of being a part of Shin’s Family for many years. Shin’s Family Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Fitness Center was the perfect stepping stone for all of my boys prior to beginning elementary school. They developed important skills such as self control, following directions and taking turns. As my boys have grown, the benefits of being students of an exceptional martial arts program have become even more apparent. All of the positive life skills and virtues encouraged at Shin’s Martial Arts have assisted in making each of my boys educational journeys that much easier. Shin’s classes are highly physical and really work on overall health. Due to the techniques learned in class, my boys are quite agile and have great body awareness. These skills have helped them in other “team” sports. They have learned self defense skills which have proven to be invaluable toward their safety and confidence. I have also participated in and benefited from the women’s self defense classes offered at Shin’s Martial Arts. All of Shin’s instructors are kind, highly energetic, and use positive motivation to encourage all students to work to the best of his or her ability. I would highly recommend Shin’s Family Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts program to any parent trying to raise a healthy, confident, respectful & self motivated child. Shannon Ross”
